This article is inspired by recent conversations the author heard.
The topics discussed suggested that we carry many traumas from our countless past lives, and that we have to "fix" this. Secondly, it was discussed that our freedom is restricted by jobs, society, responsibilities, family, etc.
Let's have a closer look at these topics.
Let's consider what this means. For example, if we believe that we were a witch in the Middle Ages who got burnt to death, then by default, we have to associate ourselves with name and form, and time and space.
So, we want to be free, but we attach ourselves to a limited identity, and then try to free ourselves from this. Let's consider this. We entertain these concepts, but we overlook the Awareness in which these concepts appear.
Here, it is worth noting that we are not denying any experience, nor are we rejecting the process of learning and growing. We are simply reminding ourselves who the Silent Witness of the experience is.
Thus, instead of believing that we are this limited object, in time and space, why don't we open ourselves to the possibility that we are free, timeless and limitless Awareness, and that maybe, this experience of being a this or a that, is simply flowing through us, or appearing in us.
However, we as Awareness are not touched by this experience. We remain free, like the ocean that effortlessly reflects the birds flying over it, but is not moved by it. We are the boundless ocean of Consciousness, free and limitless, in which everything appears and dissolves.
When we speak of free will, we are speaking of the free will that we, as Consciousness, have in the here and now.
When we believe that we are forced to do this or that, we feel limited and defeated, and it makes us miserable. But let's look at our reality with honesty and sincerity. We will see that we are always free and always have the freedom to choose whatever is available to us, in the present moment.
When we become aware of this freedom we have in the here and now, we start to perceive and feel differently. We do not feel that our lives are determined "externally" or that we are limited in any way. We start to feel empowered and we start to take direct responsibility for our lives, instead of blaming so-called "others".
We can sit in silence and check up. We can investigate whether we are really this person and this body, an object in time and space, or if we are the Silent Witness of everything. Once we acknowledge ourSelf as the Silent Witness, we stop identifying ourselves with a limited name and form.
Moment to moment, we will remember ourSelf, and acknowledge our eternally free True Nature.

Identities
We may believe that in our past lives, we have been a this and a that. We may believe that we have to fix all the wrongs of the past, and that we also have to heal all of the suffering of the past. We may imagine that if we do not figure out our past lives and heal our past-life traumas, we will never be happy and at peace.Let's consider what this means. For example, if we believe that we were a witch in the Middle Ages who got burnt to death, then by default, we have to associate ourselves with name and form, and time and space.

The Silent Witness
We may believe that we are forced to drive to work every day, that we have to do this job, that we must maintain these relationships, that we have to make our parents happy, and that we need to have this lifestyle. But are we really trapped and enslaved, or is this simply a belief? What if we are using our free will to willingly choose the things that make us unhappy, with the hope of receiving future happiness, but then blaming "others" for our choices? When we speak of free will, we are speaking of the free will that we, as Consciousness, have in the here and now.
