Waking up - Part 2

In the previous article, we briefly explored one of many paths. One of many paths, which can bring us to the realization of the Clear Light of the mind, the presence of God within us, or the knowing of our True Nature. Our Self.

The essence of this path is to renounce the false beliefs of who we are, and accordingly, our Self will be revealed. This was the focus of the first article.

In this second article, we shall elaborate a little bit more on the knowledge of our Self. It is recommended that we do not read this article unless we read the previous one. This article is built on the foundation of the first one, which puts this one into perspective.

Again, as with the previous article, the author intends on keeping it short and simple, which is quite challenging when we explore such a vast 'topic'. Please feel free to use the comment section, if the author should elaborate on any of the points mentioned.

So, with the first part behind us, let's dig in!

A veil lifted

It goes without saying, that it is impossible to express the inexpressible. If it was possible, we would be able to know who we are in an instant, by simply reading a few lines in a book or by simply listening to someone telling us. Unfortunately, or fortunately, this is not the case. So, we can attempt to create an illustration through the use of words. Let's try!

The actual experience, or the moment of 'discovering' is not to be addressed, but we can elaborate a bit more on what follows. 

As the veil of ignorance is lifted we may instantly, or gradually, start to realize that all along, we had a false understanding of who we are. We have mistaken ourselves to be a mere actor in the Divine Play, while in fact, we are the space in which the Divine Play is happening - for a lack of better words.

We are undiscriminating space, awareness, consciousness, Being. 

See, we used to perceive ourselves as objects bound to the limits of time and space. Now, it becomes obvious that the concepts of time and space exists within us. This includes 'birth' and 'death'. These are mere mental concepts, which we are not limited to. 

Our immortal Being becomes clear to us.

Accordingly, we misunderstood ourselves to be limited by name and form. We had the misunderstanding that we were these persons, these individual identities limited by the physical bodies, boxed-in by matter. Again, it becomes clear to us that name and form are mere concepts existing within us.

Our infinite Being becomes clear to us.

We are the Subject, in which these objects appear. 

Note, that we do not say that we are the Subject and that objects appear to us. This would imply separation, that we are disconnected from all objects. Therefore, we say that the objects appear in us. 

Does this make sense? We can elaborate a little bit in the next paragraph. 

Discover and explore

After discovering our True Nature, it does not simply stop here. As we said, knowing what we are not is the first step. Knowing what we are, is the second step. The third step, would be to apply this understanding to our lives and living it accordingly.

As we realize who we are, selflessness and one-ness becomes our overall experience. Again, this may not happen instantly, it could be a gradual process, becoming clear as we explore the nature of our Being.

Therefore, in order to explore who we are, we can apply nearly the same method as Neti Neti, but we apply this understanding in reverse sequence.

For example, when we didn't know who we are, we said that we are not this, not that, and we eventually discovered who we are. Now, knowing who we are, we can say that I am this, so I am that too, and that, and that. It goes on, endlessly!

When we understand, or rather, once we know that we are the conscious space in which all appears, in which all exists, it means that whatever exists, exists within us. Consider how there is one ocean, but many waves in the ocean, and all the waves are part of the same ocean. 

In the same way, the Universe and all forms of existence, they exist within us, and not separate from us. We all share the same Being. 

Each and every role being played in this Divine Play, is being played by the same Actor.
We are that Actor. 

We end the article on this note, and in the third and final part of this article, we shall go into the topic of applying Self-knowledge to our everyday-lives and living accordingly. Again, the author would like to acknowledge that this is probably a lot of 'information' squeezed into a tiny article, which of course does not justify the topic of discussion.

The various colors in the sky are all part of the same sky. In the same way, the various appearances in the Universe all share the same Being.
